To strengthen academic exchange between universities in Shenzhen and Hong Kong SAR—and to build closer ties between the School of Music at CUHK-Shenzhen and music departments across Hong Kong universities—the School of Music at CUHK-Shenzhen is hosting the "Shenzhen–Hong Kong Doctoral Forum in Musicology" on October 17–18.
The Musicology Division of the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) includes three specializations: Historical Musicology, Ethnomusicology, and Applied Musicology (master’s level only). The Division currently enrolls students at three levels: undergraduate, master's, and doctoral. There are currently more than 60 students enrolled, including 9 doctoral students. The inaugural undergraduate class graduated in 2026, while the first master's cohort is scheduled to graduate in 2027. The Musicology Division emphasizes the integration of Chinese and Western traditions. Its faculty members come from a range of countries and regions, and English is the main language of instruction. The teaching approach stresses combining theory with practice, bringing together Chinese and Western musical scholarship, and maintaining an inclusive perspective in which Chinese music, Western music, and the world’s diverse musical traditions exist side by side. Following both international standards and Chinese characteristics, the Division aims to build a distinctive, high-quality training base for talent in musicology.
