About the Role
Bird & Bird is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Corporate M&A Associate to join our Shenzhen office. In this role, you will advise multinational and Chinese clients on a wide range of complex cross-border transactions, leveraging your expertise to navigate different legal systems and support successful transaction outcomes.
Key Responsibilities

Transactional WorkIndependently draft, review and negotiate a broad range of corporate, M&A and commercial due diligence documents in both English and Chinese.
Cross-Border Corporate and M&A Transactions
Play a pivotal role in M&A matters. This includes conducting comprehensive legal due diligence, identifying key legal and compliance risks, and actively participating in the structuring and execution of transactions.
Client and Team CoordinationWork closely with partners, associates and clients to manage transaction proposals, legal updates, milestones and timelines, address complex legal issues, and ensure the smooth execution of all legal matters.
Qualifications & Requirements
EducationLaw degree from a reputable law school. Admission to practice in a common law jurisdiction (e.g. Hong Kong, England & Wales, New York) is highly preferred.
Experience2–6 years of post-qualification experience in corporate M&A, gained from a reputable international law firm or a top-tier PRC firm with a strong cross-border practice.
Language SkillsNative fluency in Mandarin Chinese and exceptional proficiency in English (written and oral). Ability to draft and negotiate complex legal documents in both languages is essential.
Core Competencies
Strong understanding of the PRC legal and business environment
Proven experience in due diligence and managing work streams in China inbound, outbound and cross-border M&A transactions
Strong analytical, drafting and negotiation skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues
